All modern connected cars are collecting user and car data, and most drivers don’t know it. Automakers are making it really difficult to opt out completely. In the case of GM / OnStar, even if you don’t have the OnStar service, it still collects certain data, and there is no way to know what data is collected and a way to turn it off completely. It should be very easy to provide a driver with a switch to turn off all data collection and respect user consent and the right to privacy. I personally wrote about this to GM many times, and they asked me to talk to their lawyers. Now I am glad people have taken the legal route seriously, and there are lawsuits now. See below. I think all automakers should respect the driver’s right to consent and the right to privacy and provide a simple switch to drive the car in air gap mode. I do hope more drivers are made aware and demand regulations to force all automakers to provide a simple switch to opt out and disable all communication outside the automobile if the driver so desires.
